Hyderabad, Neti Patrika Prajavartha :
The Government of India, for the first time, has announced the establishment of a world-class Centre of Excellence on Energy Transition (CoEET) in Hyderabad.
This landmark initiative, spearheaded by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, in collaboration with The Energy Research Institute (TERI), aims to combat climate change while enhancing energy efficiency to support economic growth and human well-being.
As a premier knowledge hub, CoEET will play a pivotal role in driving India’s clean energy transition and advancing its ambitious Net Zero emissions target by 2070. By bringing together industry leaders, academia, and civil society, the Centre seeks to foster sustainable solutions that balance environmental priorities with economic prosperity.
The initiative also gained momentum with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BEE and TERI in Hyderabad. The event was graced by several top dignitaries, including: the Union Minister of Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, the state Chief minister Shri A Revanth Reddy, the deputy chief minister, Shri Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Minister for Revenue, Housing Shri PonguletiSrinivasa Reddy, the Chief Secretary, Smt Shanti Kumari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, Shri Srikanth Nagulapally, and the Principal Secretary, Energy Department, Shri Sandeep Kumar Sultania.
The MoU was signed by Shri Milind Deora, representing BEE, and Shri Girish Seth, Director of TERI, marking a pivotal moment in India’s energy transition journey. The National CoEET aims to play a transformative role by addressing key challenges and driving innovation in energy efficiency.

2. Enhancing efficiency in energy generation, transmission, and distribution to minimize losses.
3. Providing policy and regulatory recommendations to support government energy efficiency initiatives.
4. Developing testing facilities and methodologies integrating IoT and AI for real-time energy monitoring.
5. Evaluating the socio-economic impacts of energy transition, including employment and environmental benefits.
6. Promoting circular economy practices through dedicated research studies.
Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Power, remarked, “The Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition is a bold and transformative initiative that underscores India’s commitment to achieving sustainable development goals.
