The AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has declared its steadfast support for the transformative Mission LiFE (Life Style for Environment), launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP26.
On the sidelines of the public hearing in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, APERC Chairman Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy along with members Thakur Ramasingh ,PVR Reddy,MD, AP Genco& Joint MD, AP Transco. K. ChakradharBabu, CMDs of DiscomsPrudhvitej, K. Santosha Rao and Kumar Reddy CEO of SECM unveiled a compelling poster of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Ministry of Power,GOI on Mission LiFE, highlighting its core principles of energy efficiency and conservation. He emphasized the Discom’s commitment to environmental stewardship and a sustainable future.
In a significant move to combat climate change and promote sustainable living for the benefit of the public, the BEE is actively promoting the “Mission LiFE” initiative. A program of Unveiling of Poster of Mission Life was conducted in EPDCL headquarters,Visakhapatnam by Media Advisor Wing of BEE, Southern States / UTs in Coordination with EPDCL and AP SECM,SDA of AP as part of this initiative.
Mission LiFE, a key component of India’s Nationally Determined Contributions, aims to mobilize one billion individuals worldwide towards adopting a lifestyle in harmony with nature.
With ambitious goals in mind, BEE is spearheading the initiative, with a focus on nationwide expansion to mobilize citizens towards achieving the nation’s climate objectives. The phased implementation of Mission LiFE across major cities and regions, including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, and Union Territories in the Southern region, aims to catalyze a shift towards sustainability.
Central to the mission’s success is the adoption of a comprehensive strategy encompassing Lifestyle, Energy Conservation (EC), and Energy Efficiency (EE) messages. BEE is actively promoting energy efficiency through various programs targeting schools, households, and Residential Welfare Associations. From energy clubs in schools to community workshops and online platforms disseminating knowledge on energy-efficient practices, the mission seeks to empower individuals to become stewards of the environment.
Looking ahead, Mission LiFE has set ambitious targets for 2022-2028, envisioning the transformation of villages and urban local bodies into environmentally friendly entities. By promoting sustainable practices, harnessing technology and innovation, and fostering knowledge sharing and capacity building, the mission aims to combat climate change, build a sustainable future, empower individuals and communities, and stimulate innovation and the green economy.

The APERC chairman reminded the Commission’s approval of initiatives such as LED distribution, solar pump sets, and pump efficiency upgrades within power utilities. He also highlighted the approval of a pilot program to provide energy-efficient appliances to consumers via installment plans, collected through electricity bills. This Proposed pilot program is to actively engage the consumers in EC&EE activity. While appreciating AP Transco and Discoms on implementation of various Energy efficiency Programs, Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy emphasized the need for Power Utilities for further promoting energy conservation to take the Mission LiFE forward.
The CMD of APEPDCL, Prudhvitej stated that the Discom’s relentless pursuit of energy efficiency and conservation epitomizes its unwavering dedication to shaping a sustainable future and addressing Climate Change.
He highlighted APEPDCL’s groundbreaking Demand Side Management (DSM) programs, which have delivered impressive results, including substantial energy savings and demand reduction. For instance, the Deployment of Efficient Lighting Programme(DELP), UnnatJyothi Affordable LEDs for all (UJALA) distributed 86 lakh LED bulbs, saving 639 MU annually. The Domestic Efficient Fans Program (DEFP) sold 66,215 energy-efficient fans, saving 12.7 MU per year. The Energy Efficient Tube Lights Program (EETL) sold 91,246 LED tube lights, saving 22.86 MU annually. Additionally, the Agricultural DSM scheme replaced old pump sets, saving 72 MU yearly.
These efforts resulted in a cumulative energy saving of 5062.48 MU and a demand reduction of 101.222 MW, highlighting APEPDCL’s pivotal role in energy conservation. APEPDCL’s Solar Rooftop initiative, with 4693 installations, has saved 140.09 MU annually and reduced demand by 110.35 MW over six years. Financial savings amounted to Rs.166.617 Crore, showcasing the economic benefits of renewable energy adoption.
CMDs of Discoms have thanked the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Energy Minister P. Rama Chandra Reddy &Spl. CS. Energy Department K. Vijayanand for their Unstinted Support to motivate the Discoms for providing Quality and 24×7 hour power to the Consumers.
