In a decisive move to combat climate change and curb global warming, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has partnered with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, to spearhead the Mission LiFE initiative. This collaborative effort aims to reach every corner of the state, setting new benchmarks in sustainable living and energy efficiency.
The Andhra Pradesh government lauded BEE’s efforts to promote and create widespread awareness about energy efficiency (EE) and Mission LiFE in a phased manner. The campaign will target major cities in Southern India, including the pilgrimage center of Tirupati, Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Trivandrum, as well as Union Territories.
By involving all key departments through state-level State Designated Agencies (SDAs) like APSECM, the mission aims to significantly enhance the state’s economy, ensure energy security, and uplift the quality of life for its citizens. The initiative is set to propel a paradigm shift towards sustainable living, heralding a new era of environmental standards.
As part of these efforts, A Chandra Shekhara Reddy, Media Adviser (Southern States/UTs), BEE, along with BAV Kumar Reddy, CEO, AP SECM, met K. Vijayanand, Special Chief Secretary (Energy Department), to seek his support and insights for promoting Mission LiFE’s core objectives for the benefit of society and future generations.
During the meeting,. K. Vijayanand released a special book on the Mission LiFE Program, reaffirming the Energy Department’s commitment to the mission.
Expressing confidence in the transformative potential of Mission LiFE, . he emphasized that both rural and urban areas of Andhra Pradesh will play a pivotal role in addressing climate change through this prestigious program. He highlighted the government’s resolve to extend the benefits of energy efficiency to every nook and corner of the State
The Andhra Pradesh government is actively involving all key departments to achieve the ambitious targets set by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. These initiatives will not only position Andhra Pradesh as a leader in energy efficiency but also ensure the delivery of quality and cost-effective power to the public, significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
To meet these targets, the state is collaborating with BEE and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), a joint venture company of Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the Ministry of Power. A series of meetings with EESL have been held with relevant top officials to draft a comprehensive roadmap on energy efficiency that promises to drive economic growth.
. Spl..CS emphasized the importance of organizing regional programs on Mission LiFE in collaboration with BEE and other stakeholders, with the goal of reaching every corner of the state under the guiding principle: “Nature protects those who protect it.”
Mission LiFE is expected to uplift the living standards of Andhra Pradesh’s residents by enhancing health, economic, and environmental conditions. “Our ultimate goal is to position AP. as the leading state in implementing Mission LiFE,” stated Vijayanand.
The Media Adviser informed that by taking up an effective campaign on Mission LiFE, the state can gain significant economic benefits apart from ensuring environmental protection. By promoting sustainable practices, the mission will boost demand for eco-friendly products and services, supporting small businesses and local markets while encouraging innovation in green technologies.
Sustainable practices under Mission LiFE aim to reduce pollution, improve public health, and lower healthcare costs. The initiative also promotes eco-conscious tourism, generating revenue for local communities while conserving natural resources. The mission outlines 75 actionable steps, including adopting LED lighting, using public transport, cycling, CNG/EV vehicles, carpooling, and solar energy solutions.

The Clean Energy Policy 2024 captures Andhra Pradesh’s initiative to enhance its renewable energy outlook, making it a hub for greater Renewable Energy investments, manufacturing, and deployment. This policy aims to enable a dynamic environment for clean energy to take center stage and foster the vision of the Honorable Chief Minister to make Andhra Pradesh the frontrunner in renewable energy, the first-choice destination for investors.
We invite all stakeholders, including industry leaders, investors, and citizens, to join us in this transformative journey towards a sustainable energy future, aiming for the development of approximately 160 GW of Renewable Energy capacities, with an investment potential of around INR 10 lakh crores, thereby generating employment opportunities for around 750,000 individuals. Together, let us build a brighter and more sustainable future for our state by deeply focussing on Mission LIFE.. he said
