– AP Govt.to support Centre in addressing Climate Change
– Commits to Aggressive Energy Efficiency Measures in Partnership with Centre
– Centre-State Collaboration Strengthened
– Recognition for Fisheries Sector in West Godavari for imparting Global Energy Efficiency Technologies.
Vijayawada, Neti Patrika Prajavartha :
In a significant move to combat climate change and support the Union Government’s mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has adopted a comprehensive Five-Point Climate Strategy aimed at enhancing environmental resilience, reducing carbon emissions, and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The initiative reflects Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to become a role model State in clean energy transition and climate mitigation. Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand announced the strategy following a high-level meeting with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power (MoP), Government of India.
The Five-Point Strategy Includes:
1.Aggressive Implementation of Energy Efficiency (EE):
In collaboration with BEE, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), and Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL), the state will scale up EE adoption across key sectors to reduce energy bills and improve power quality. Andhra Pradesh aims to attract ₹8,000 crore in EE investments by FY 2031, contributing significantly to the national climate action goals, as energy efficiency alone accounts for 40% of emission reduction potential.
2. Accelerated Renewable Energy Deployment:
Under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy (ICEP) 2024, the government is targeting the creation of a robust renewable energy ecosystem capable of generating 78 GW of solar power and 35 GW of wind power, making AP a hub for green power generation.
3. Massive Afforestation Drive:
A statewide campaign is underway to plant 1 crore saplings in a single day and 5.58 crore saplings over the next year, with the long-term goal of increasing the state’s green cover from 30% to 50% by 2047.
4. Adoption of Global Best Practices in Energy Efficiency:
The state will study and replicate international EE best practices—especially in the building, industrial, and MSME sectors—with support from BEE, EESL, and the Ministry of Power and Rural Development.
5. Statewide Awareness and Student Engagement Campaign:
Through the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), the government will launch mass awareness programs involving all key departments, academic institutions, and private/public stakeholders. Special focus will be placed on student participation via the creation of Energy Clubs in schools and colleges, recognizing youth as critical agents of change.
As part of efforts to boost regional cooperation for enhancing Energy Efficiency through effective communication strategies BEE’s Southern India Media Adviser A. Chandrasekhar Reddy called on Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand to discuss top-level feedback and strategies from southern states of Kerala , Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and UTs. During the interaction, the Chief Secretary shared that Chief Minister Shri. N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for a time-bound implementation of energy efficiency programs across departments such as Energy, Panchayati Raj & Rural Development, Housing, Tourism, Women & Child Welfare, and Roads & Buildings.
The Chief Minister’s recent launch of three major EESL initiatives—Urja Veer, Energy-Efficient Appliances in Housing, and Efficient Cooking Technologies in Anganwadis—in the presence of Union Minister for Housing, Energy & Urban Development Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, has drawn national attention for its forward-thinking approach.
In a major boost to the MSME sector, the Fisheries cluster in West Godavari district has been selected by the BEE under its “Energy-Intensive Clusters” program for the adoption of global best-in-class EE technologies. Chief Secretary Vijayanand expressed gratitude to the Bureau and the Ministry of Power for this strategic recognition.
A high-level delegation from Delhi’s Energy Efficiency division is expected to visit Andhra Pradesh shortly to fine-tune the department-wise action plan and ensure its timely and effective implementation.
