Vijayawada, Neti Patrika Prajavartha :
As part of special efforts to bring electric vehicles revolution in the country in the next ten years, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), GoI has requested all state governments to adopt e-mobility to promote electric vehicles which will help to increase energy security, reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.
In context of physical review meetings with all States very soon in major cities like Vizag, Hyderabad, Chennai, Lucknow, Bangalore, Jaipur etc, The Director General of BEE, GoI , Abhay Bakre has conducted teleconference on E-mobility with State Designated Agencies (for energy conservation and energy efficiency) of all States.

Explaining about the nationwide activities to promote e-mobility, DG said that the Central Ministries and concerned departments have taken several proactive steps to lay down a foundation for electric mobility in the country. Currently 14 states have already come up with EV policies to promote E-mobility within states. Additionally, the Govt. of India has announced FAME (Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) India scheme to incentivize deployment of public charging infrastructure and encourage progressive induction of reliable, affordable and efficient electric and hybrid vehicles (xEV) across the country
The DG said the Government has approved Phase-II of FAME Scheme with an outlay of Rs. 10,000 Crore for a period of 3 years (2019-22) commencing from 1st April 2019 and is now extended up to 31 st March 2024.

Out of total budgetary support, about 86 percent i.e. Rs.8596 crore of fund has been allocated for Demand Incentive i.e., Rs.15,000/- per kilowatt (kW) for 2 wheelers with cap on incentive will be 40% of the cost of the vehicle, Rs. 10,000/- per kilowatt for 3 and 4-wheelers & Rs.20000/- per kilowatt (kW) for electric buses and trucks.

It is aimed at generating demand by way of supporting 7000 electric-Buses, 5 lakh e-3 wheelers, 55000 e-4 wheeler passenger cars (including Strong Hybrid) and 10 lakh e-2 wheelers. Under FAME scheme, 4.08 lakhs vehicles sold across the country amounting to fuel saving of 3,76,801 litres per day and hence leads to CO2 reduction of 857441kgs per day, whereas in the state of AP, 15,865 no. of vehicles were sold.

The BEE director General Abhay Bakre said that the air pollution from vehicles in urban areas has grown at an alarming rate and become a serious problem affecting human health and leading environmental hazards/consequences. Fossil fuels were also becoming scarce steadily all over the world. On other hand, as per climate change commitments, India is obligated to bring down 1 billion tonnes of CO2 by 2030.
He said the government has decided to give a boost to electric vehicles across the country and develop charging infrastructure. Electric vehicles represent one of the most promising pathways to increase energy security, reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality. Electric mobility comes with zero or ultra-low tail-pipe emissions of local air pollutant and much lower noise. It can boost to the economic and industrial competitiveness creating congenial atmosphere for attracting investments.
The BEE DG along with Secretary BEE, R K Rai, Deputy Director General of BEE, Ashok kumar, Directors of BEE, Saurabh Diddi, Milind Deore, Sunil Kumar Khandare, Arijit Sen gupta, Vineeta Kanwal and Joint Director , Abhishek Sharma said in the teleconference addressing representatives of SDAs from various states that the Union Ministry Power had taken decisions to take forward this E-Vehicle movement in the country by setting up public charging stations.
The government will permit any individual or entity to set up charging stations. “The BEE wants participation of every citizen in the country in the movement of protecting environment and providing a better future for next generations. We need to come forward to take responsibility of building a healthy society.,” he said.
Senior executive of APSECM has explained about the vigorous implementation of awareness activities on Electric vehicles such as “Go electric campaign” in coordination with NREDCAP to involve various kinds of stakeholders of said that BEE has given consent for electrification of 3-wheeler passenger autos (retrofitting of existing IC Engine autos with electric retrofit kits & swappable batteries) 200 no’s in Tirupati city & 100 no’s in Visakhapatnam city through State Energy Conservation Fund (SECF) 2 Crs of APSECM which will not only helps to reduce the pollution & also helps to increase the income of auto drivers on account of low running & maintenance costs..
VC & MD ,NREDCAP, S Ramana Reddy said that AP govt. is also keen on promoting e-mobility in Andhra Pradesh. At present there are about 109 charging stations installed in the state and NREDCAP planned to install chargers for every 25 Kms on State and National highways and for every 3 x 3 km grid within the cities. NREDCAP identified 4000 location in association with Govt and different private land owners, also empanelled 10 charge point developers and feasibility studies are in advanced stage.
