Hyderabad, Neti Patrika Prajavartha :
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has urged State Designated Agencies (SDAs) across Southern India, including Telangana, to intensify efforts in promoting the Star Labelling Programme under the Standards and Labelling (S&L) initiative.
This program aims to empower electricity consumers, foster savings, and contribute to environmental sustainability. As part of its engagement, BEE held meetings with top government officials and SDAs in Southern states. Media Adviser (Southern States/UTs) Chandrasekhar Reddy, along with V. Aneela, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of TS REDCO, explained communication strategies for energy efficiency and conservation to Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Principal Secretary Energy Department Govt of Telangana. Milind Deore, Secretary BEE, who participated online, highlighted the impact of the Standard & Labeling Program of BEE, focusing on empowering consumers with knowledge about energy-efficient appliances.
In this context, Sandeep Kumar Sultania reiterated Telangana’s commitment to strengthening the energy sector under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy and the monitoring of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Bhatti Vikramarka. The state prioritizes 24×7 quality power supply while adhering to global standards. To achieve this target, the government has taken significant steps to increase renewable energy generation substantially and to make Telangana the most energy-efficient state, focusing on economic deployment and environmental protection.
During the event, Sandeep Kumar Sultania released a BEE poster showcasing energy efficiency alongside DivyaDevarajan, CEO of SERP, emphasizing the government’s strategy to meet future energy demands cost-effectively while promoting energy efficiency for energy security and environmental consciousness. He stated that these efforts are vital not only for strengthening the power sector but also for economic development and improving the living standards of the people.
The state government has prioritized public awareness campaigns, including initiatives such as Energy Clubs established in government schools to promote energy conservation, women’s participation through self-help groups to enhance energy efficiency at the household level, and district-level seminars and meetings conducted by TSREDCO to encourage the adoption of government-backed energy efficiency programs such as BEE’s Star-Rated Appliances and EESL’s UnnatJyoti Affordable LEDs for All initiative. Sandeep Kumar Sultania emphasized the need for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Secretary Lokesh Kumar and Smt. DivyaDevarajan, CEO of SERP, to formulate an action plan to showcase Telangana at the national level by involving women’s self-help groups on a large scale to enhance energy efficiency, conservation, and climate change mitigation. TSREDCO will support SERP in preparing the plan with guidance from BEE, the national policymaking body for energy efficiency.
Milind Deore, Secretary BEE, thanked the Principal Secretary Energy for initiating stringent steps to implement energy efficiency programs and focusing on communication strategies, which will have a significant impact on improving the quality of power and boosting the state’s economy. He highlighted the consumer benefits of the Star Labeling Programme, which assigns ratings to appliances based on energy efficiency. Nationally, the program has resulted in savings of 109 billion units of electricity, a reduction of 88 million tonnes of CO2 emissions since its inception, and annual cost savings of ₹30,000 crore along with a reduction of 46 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in recent years. By promoting star-rated appliances, the BEE empowers consumers to reduce electricity bills and contribute to environmental conservation.
Recognizing the proactive efforts in Telangana and other Southern states, BEE reaffirmed its support for advancing energy efficiency. The Secretary emphasized the critical role of SDAs in implementing the Star Labelling Programme, conducting market surveillance, and enhancing consumer awareness. Through these initiatives, the Star Labelling Programme empowers consumers, drives energy efficiency, and fosters environmental stewardship, paving the way for a sustainable and energy-efficient future in India.
