In a bid to provide an affordable power supply to Consumers and reduce Green House Gas Emissions, the Andhra Pradesh State Regulatory Commission (APERC) has emphasized the urgent need for accelerating Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation with the active participation of all categories of Electricity Consumers.
Recognizing the significance of penetrating the message of Conservation, the Commission suggested adopting a special mechanism to fully involve the Women’s community in reaching the desired goals of achieving a minimum of 20 per cent energy savings, said Thakur Ram Singh, the Chairman of APERC, On the eve of BEE and the Indo-German National Summit of Energy Efficiency, the Chairman and the Member PVR Reddy wished the Event a grand success.
The Chairman, Rama Singh, also released a report on Energy Efficiency presented by A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, Media Adviser Southern States/UTs BEE MOP GOI, and BAV Kumar Reddy CEO of APSECM. Realizing the immediate need to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions and support the National movement on Energy Conservation, the Chairman suggested that the Discoms, APSECM, the SDA of the State conduct special programs to involve the Self-Help Groups (SHG) deeply and spread the strong message of energy and Water Conservation so that the entire society will benefit from reduced Greenhouse gas emissions.
The Chairman has appreciated the efforts and support of national agencies such as BEE and EESL in helping AP Power Utilities accelerate Energy Efficiency, which helped the State get national recognition.
In the context of Energy Security, it is the honor of the AP State to host the National Summit on Energy Efficiency in Vijayawada on the 20th and 21st of February 2025 & showcase the best practices of the States, including AP.
The APERC is at the forefront of promoting Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation (EE & EC) measures in Andhra Pradesh. The Commission has mainly focused on Demand-side Management as part of its endeavor, issued APERC DSM Regulation 2024. The following objectives are envisaged in the APERC DISM Regulations.
1. Make DSM an integral part of the day-to-day operations of the Distribution Licensee to improve end-use efficiency of electricity, environmental conservation and cost reduction;
2. Control, reduce and influence electricity demand;
3. Encourage consumers to amend their electricity consumption pattern both for timing and level of electricity demand for efficient use of energy;
4. Complement supply-side strategies to help the utilities avoid or reduce or postpone (i) costly capacity (generation, transmission & distribution network) additions (ii) costly power purchases;
5. Reduce transmission and distribution (T&D) losses through implementation of end-use energy efficiency programs;
6. Reduce the environmental damage by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases;
7. Supplement National and State level efforts for implementation of various DSM programs set out by the Bureau;
8. Make strategic efforts to induce lasting structural or behavioral changes in the market that shall result in increased adoption of energy-efficient technologies, services, and practices;
9. Protect the interest of the consumers and shall result in an overall reduction in the cost of electricity for all the consumers;
During the APERC program with BEE in Kurnool, the senior officers of the Commission Sri. D. Ramanaiah Shetty, Joint Director and Sri P. Krishna Commission Secretary (I/c) have made a presentation on the Commission’s initiates on DSM activities in Discoms.
APERC also stated that it is releasing a Retail Supply Tariff (RST) Order for FY2025-26 on 20.02.25 in Tirupati at 3.30 PM. The Venue for the event is Conference Hall Corporate Office APSPDCL. All the CMDs, DISCOM and AP Transco will attend the release event. The Hon’ble Member, Chairman (I/c) Sri Thakur Rama Singh, alongside Sir PVR Reddy, will release the Order. The Chairman (I/c) will likely review the Energy Efficiency activities undertaken by the DISCOMs under the LIFE goals envisaged by GOI after releasing the RST Order for FY2025-26.
