Vijayawada, Neti Patrika Prajavartha :
In a significant step towards energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, is spearheading the nationwide rollout of Mission LiFE. As part of this initiative, BEE has developed the National Concept of the Pro Planet People Initiative (PPPI) to advance India’s commitment to sustainable economic development and climate action.
Designed in collaboration with the Ministry of Power (MoP) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), this national concept encourages individuals and communities to adopt an eco-conscious lifestyle that aligns with nature and minimizes harm. The Union Government has designated those who practice such a lifestyle as “Pro Planet People.”
To drive this transformation, BEE has urged all State Designated Agencies (SDAs) to commit to the Massive Mass Movement (MMM or 3M) to aggressively promote Mission LiFE as a global movement. This initiative aims to empower individuals to become active participants in environmental protection and mindful consumption, contributing to a more sustainable future.
BEE Secretary Milind Deore revealed that the MoP and MoEF&CC have finalized an ambitious plan to mobilize one billion individuals globally while ensuring that 80% of India’s villages and urban areas embrace this sustainable mission.
To achieve this monumental goal, BEE is confident that major southern and northern states, especially Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, will play a proactive role in promoting Mission LiFE. Efforts will be phased, focusing on key metropolitan cities and world-famous pilgrimage centers such as Tirupati, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Bhopal, and Chandigarh.
Following the success of the BEE-Indo German Energy Partnership National Summit in Vijayawada, Secretary Milind Deore and BEE Director Abhishek Sharma emphasized the need for SDAs to establish exclusive energy conservation cells within key government departments. These cells will actively promote Mission LiFE and ensure its penetration at the grassroots level.
In a strategic presentation on communication strategies, A. Chandra Sekhara Reddy, Media Adviser for Southern States and UTs, urged SDAs to design exclusive programs to raise public awareness and expand participation. The aim is to enhance living standards, economic growth, and ecological well-being.
To sustain momentum, BEE has recommended that state governments allocate dedicated green energy budgets as matching grants alongside BEE funding, particularly for program implementation and communication strategies. The agency also called on SDAs to champion Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Mission LiFE.
Secretary Milind Deore highlighted that BEE’s programs have led to energy savings exceeding 50.98 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE).
Additionally, these efforts have resulted in:
• Electricity savings of 306.55 billion units annually.
• Substantial monetary savings per annum.
• A reduction of approximately 306.40 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
SDAs commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership at COP26, where he introduced Mission LiFE as a transformative movement. The initiative aims to reshape environmental consciousness, replacing the current “use-and-throw” culture with sustainable, mindful consumption and a circular economy.
By integrating its energy efficiency programs with Mission LiFE, BEE is driving India toward a cleaner, greener, and more responsible future.
