With an immense potential to produce renewable energy and export the power to outside the state, the state government is giving high priority for promotion of renewable energy projects and formulated a comprehensive policy to attract investments for establishing wind, solar, hybrid projects on a massive scale in the state, said Joint Managing Director of APTRANSCO, I Prudhvi Tej
Addressing the meeting on Collaboration between Government of Andhra Pradesh and Government of Western Australia at Visakhapatnam on Saturday , on behalf of K Vijayanand, special chief secretary energy department, JMD Prudhvi Tej said that the Andhra Pradesh renewable export policy 2020 has been announced to promote investments in renewable energy sector to attract investors by establishing wind solar hybrid projects which will not only strengthen the energy sector in the state but also helpful in generating revenue, create local employment, improve people’s standards of living and boost the industrial and economic development of the state. Under the policy, the renewable energy produced and exported to other states without any obligation to the state discoms to procure power.
Besides, pumped hydro storage projects (PSP) with capacity of 33 GW have been planned both on river and off river sites. This will help to convert variable renewable energy sources into the round the clock power and attract large scale investments into the state.
As part of policy framework to promote renewable energy in Andhra Pradesh, the government has decided to facilitate potential land to lease around 5 lakh acres to renewable energy export project developers, attract investments, equipment manufacturing facilities and generate additional revenue to the state
“The efforts of chief minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Energy Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy to strengthen energy sector would help to transform the state into a vibrant economy and industrial hub. The state would also become a destination for clean and affordable energy. The dream of chief minister is to enable every family to access the benefits of cheap power which will help to improve economic and living standards.”, he said.
The government through a land aggregating agency will procure and aggregate government and private lands at potential locations for allotment to the project developers on lease basis. As part of solar power policy, the state has a target of minimum of 5 GW solar capacity additions in the next 5 years, develop solar parks with utility infrastructure facilities, promote distributed generation, deploy solar powered agriculture pumpsets and promote local manufacturing facilities.
Under wind power policy the state will promote wind power generation to meet the growing energy demand, attract investments for large wind power projects and to promote investments for setting up manufacturing facilities.
Similarly, under wind solar hybrid power policy, the state will promote large grid connected wind solar PV systems, optimal utilization of transmission infrastructure, encourage new and other emerging technologies like energy storage systems.
As part of developing pumped hydro storage projects, a 1350 MW pumped hydro project is being developed to enable larger integration of renewables into the grid and also meet peaking power requirement. The state has already identified 29 feasible locations for pumped hydro with cumulative capacity of 33 GW after conducting techno commercial feasibility studies (on river and off river) with 1.45 lakh acres of land in Kadapa, Kurnool, Ananthapur districts.
In a recent meeting held at corporate office of APTRANSCO, Vidyut Soudha headed by CMD APTRANSCO, B Sreedhar, various key issues were discussed to enhance green energy initiatives in APTRANSCO also and are going to discuss with global agencies soon, said prudhvi Tej.
He appealed investors to come to invest in AP energy sector and the state authorities to provide all clearances and approvals in a transparent manner.
