BEE Boosts State Energy Efficiency: National Summit in Vijayawada

In a strategic move to enhance energy resilience and accelerate sustainability through energy efficiency, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, is set to strengthen the role of State Designated Agencies (SDAs). This initiative aims to ensure the effective implementation of national programs at the state level, leading to measurable energy savings and significant CO2 reductions.
As part of this effort, BEE, in collaboration with GIZ, will organize the BEE–Indo German Energy Program Partnership National Summit on February 20–21, 2025, in Vijayawada. The summit will provide a platform for discussions on ongoing energy efficiency initiatives, with a special focus on empowering SDAs to drive energy conservation efforts.
In a letter to Shri K. Vijayanand, Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh and Chairman of APSECM, Shri Srikanth Nagulapally, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power & Director General, BEE, has invited him to deliver the inaugural address and share valuable insights to contribute to the summit’s success.
Welcoming BEE’s decision to host the summit in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Secretary Vijayanand emphasized the state’s commitment to strengthening the financial stability of power distribution companies (DISCOMs). He highlighted the state government’s focus on leveraging Central Government schemes such as PM Surya Ghar and PM Kusum to boost renewable energy adoption and reduce operational costs.
On the occasion of BEE’s Summit K.Vijayanand has released a report on impact of BEE Star Rated Appliances to achieve economic and energy savings through effective communication strategies presented by A Chandra Sekhara Reddy Media Adviser Southern States/ UTs BEE MOP.
He also directed CEO.AP SECM BAV Kumar Reddy to support and Coordination with BEE and ensure to make the summit a grand success.
Additionally, the Chief Secretary urged the Centre to double the state’s battery storage capacity from 1,000 MW to 2,000 MW, enhancing grid stability and renewable energy utilization.He commended BEE for successfully implementing prestigious energy efficiency programs which will have major impact for providing quality of Power supply and reducing energy costs and contribute to India’s climate goals.
Ahead of the summit, Milind Deora, Secretary, BEE, Ministry of Power, along with Abhishek Sharma, Director, BEE, reviewed the event’s preparations with CEO and officials of APSECM. A special session will be organized to showcase the best energy efficiency practices from states including Andhra Pradesh, Tripura, Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha, and Uttarakhand.
Highlighting the investment potential in the sector, Milind Deora noted that India has estimated sizeable investments the area of energy efficiency. He also acknowledged the commendable efforts of states such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana in advancing energy efficiency initiatives.
“Andhra Pradesh, through SECM, has been a frontrunner in organizing Investment Bazaars and has established a Financial Institutions Committee to explore local financing options for energy efficiency projects,” Deora added.
With stakeholders from across India expected to participate, the BEE–Indo German Energy Program Partnership National Summit will play a crucial role in shaping the future of energy efficiency in the country.
