As part of the objective of state government, the AP power utilities have assured to supply 24×7 highly qualitative power to industries to promote industrialization which will help for economic development and employment generation in the State, said Special CS Energy K Vijayanand.
AP State Energy Conservation Mission, Energy dept of AP in co-ordination with Bureau of Energy Efficinecy, GoI, organized a workshop on Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) Scheme at Vijayawada on Wednesday to explain about the implementation of energy efficiency technologies in highly energy intensive industries in Andhra Pradesh in which representatives of large scale industries participated.
Speaking on the occasion, the special chief secretary energy, K Vijayanand who has inaugurated the program as a chief guest said that the AP power utilities are ready to support the industry sector in providing 24×7 uninterrupted power supply as per the objective of the chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and energy minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy who are very keen towards industrial promotion and employment generation.
The special chief secretary energy said that the PAT scheme is a market-based compliance regulatory mechanism to accelerate implementation of cost-effective improvements in energy efficiency in large energy-intensive industries. During the inaugural session of the workshop, the special chief secretary announced PAT results as per the data provided by bureau of Energy Efficiency about Andhra Pradesh and disclosed that 36 high energy intensive industries falling under PAT scheme saved around 0.818 Million ton of oil equivalent (mtoe) energy(consisting of coal, oil, gas, lignite etc.) worth of Rs.5709 Crore in the state with reduction of 2.464 million tons of CO2 by implementing energy efficiency technologies and best practices in the industry in the first three cycles of PAT for the last few years.
The State has been implementing the PAT scheme with an objective to mandate specific energy efficiency improvements for the most energy intensive industries. Andhra Pradesh is one of the best States that has framed a robust framework for promoting energy efficiency in industries, including implementation of PAT scheme, promoting IoT(Internet of Things) enabled energy efficiency technologies in small and medium industries etc.
The State government has laid special emphasis on improving industrial energy efficiency apart from providing reliable, quality and affordable power to industries in the State. The efficiency leads to productivity gains by lowering maintenance costs and increasing production yields per unit of input.
Special CS energy also said that that the Industry is the mainstay of the state economy and uninterrupted quality power is a critical requirement for its development and the present power supply position with no interruption even for a wink is a boon to the Industrial Consumers. As the uninterrupted power supply is vital for continuous process industries, any interruption in supply would force the “In process Raw Material” to go waste, thus causing lot of production loss and even financial loss to the Industry. The 24X7 uninterrupted power has instilled confidence in the Industrial Consumers in power supply, he said.
The special CS energy said the efforts of the state government are yielding fruitful results and grossing kudos from Industrialists not only within the State but also from other States and even from other Countries. The power utilities have been putting their best efforts to maintain uninterrupted 24×7 quality, reliable and secured grid power to the industrial sector, thus freeing the industrial consumers from the obligation of setting up of captive / standby power generation with a huge capital cost. The 24×7 power helps the industries to reduce production cost and will have positive economic impact to the industry sector and state as well.
After COVID, the economic activity in the state is in full swing that resulted in increase in energy consumption. For instance, the consumption of Visakhapatnam registered 21 percent growth in 2021-22 against the energy demand in 2018-19.
Stating that achieving more energy savings in industries was definitely a good accomplishment, special CS said that the PAT scheme would help to accelerate implementation of cost-effective improvements in energy efficiency in large energy-intensive industries. “The State still has huge untapped potential in energy efficiency sector. Both energy sector and its depending sectors will get benefit with the energy efficiency,” he said.
BEE Officials said that the energy savings achieved at national level for the first three cycles of PAT was around 24.05 mtoe(40 billion units of electrical energy) and 22 mtoe of thermal energy) . In PAT cycles 4 to 7, the savings are expected to be 9.11 mtoe by 2024.
The special CS thanked state industries department for their support in implementation of PAT and appreciated the managements of industries who achieved tangible results under PAT scheme. He requested industries department to continue its support to the energy department in implementing the best energy efficiency measures in industries that would help for industrial and economic development of State.
He thanked BEE for its continuous support to improve energy efficiency in industrial sector and appointing FICCI for support in implementation of PAT. He further said that the State government would extend support for improving industrial energy efficiency and also appealed the industry leaders to lay special focus on taking energy efficiency measures in industries which would benefit both the industries and the Nation as well.
Speaking on this occasion, the CEO APSECM, A Chandra Sekhara Reddy said that APSECM have implemented IoT based demonstration project in MSMEs in co-ordination with IIT, Hyderabad in Padma ceramics in East Godavari district. The project was successful and the innovative IOTtechnology was recognized and showcased at national level. Accordingly, APSECM have installed 65 Nos. IoT power monitoring devices in MSME units to improve their power factor enhance equipment life and their productivity, he said.
Officials from FICCI, Pushpendra Nayak, Joint Director , Kishorsing Patil, Associate Manager tech, EESL, GoI , Malvi Mehrotra, Project Economist, BEE, and representatives from various industries from cement, power plant, steel, sugar, fertilizers etc have participated.
