Recognizing the constant efforts of AP Power utilities to promote energy conservation and energy efficiency, the Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a subsidiary company of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), GoI, requested AP Energy Department to co-operate with it in distributing LED bulbs to households in Andhra Pradesh under Gram UJALA scheme to take the benefits of energy efficiency to every household in rural areas.
In a communication to AP Energy Secretary B Sreedhar, the MD & CEO of CESL Mahua Acharya said that under the aegis of “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav” event of Govt. of India, the Gram Ujala Program was launched by Union Minister of Power and New Renewable Energy, R K Singh and consequently the CESL has distributed more than 10 lakh LED bulbs in five states including Andhra Pradesh on 14 December 14, 2021.
“Distribution of LED bulbs to the households in rural areas of AP will help minimize the burden of electricity bills to some extent and helps to lessen the peak demand considerably for AP power utilities. With the timely support from the government of Andhra Pradesh, CESL has distributed more than one lakh LED bulbs across 3 districts in the State on December 14, 2021”, MD CESL said.
Approximately, 60000 LED bulbs in Kadapa, 39000 LEDs in Kurnool and 2000 LEDs in Chittoor were distributed on 14th December-2021. As on 28th March-2022, 48289 no. of 7W LED bulbs, 164696 no. of 12 W LED bulbs in Kadapa, 69475 no. of 7W LED bulbs, 152404 no. of 12 W LED bulbs in Kurnool, 2000 no of 12 W LED bulbs and 1 no. 7 W LED bulbs in Chittoor were distributed totalling to 4.36 lakh LED bulbs distribution in Andhra Pradesh.
She requested AP DISCOMs for their continued support in distribution of LED bulbs in the State to reach the cumulative count of 1 Crore LED bulbs distribution in the Country. She also said that along with Andhra Pradesh, the other four States- Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Telangana were also selected for distribution of LED bulbs.
While thanking CESL for their energy efficiency initiative to rural people of the State, the secretary for energy B Sreedhar said the Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Energy Minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy have been emphasizing the need for providing 24×7 quality and cost effective power for which the Gram UJALA project will have a good impact on the States Objective, he said.
“The objective of the scheme is to provide the rural households access to high quality lighting and benefit them from energy efficiency that helps to save energy, reduce electricity bills and reduce the ill effects on environment”, MD CESL said.
The entire spending for the distribution of LED bulbs will be borne by CESL and there would not be any financial burden on the AP Power Utilities or State Govt. The Consumer will have to pay Rs. 10/- per LED bulb and rest of the cost is met by CESL.
LED bulbs are energy efficient, high quality and long lasting, consuming 88 per cent less energy when compared to incandescent bulbs. The LED lighting technology last 25 times longer than incandescent lighting in general. The LEDs emit very less heat comparing with incandescent bulbs and CFLs which releases 90 per cent and 80 per cent of their energy as heat respectively.
