With an objective to bring electric vehicles revolution in the State which represents one of the most promising pathways to increase energy security, reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality, the AP Power Utilities has taken up “Go Electric” campaign to spread awareness on the benefits of e-mobility and electric vehicles charging infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
As part of this initiative, New &Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) in co-ordination with AP State Energy Conservation Mission(APSECM), State Designated Agency of AP with the support of Union Ministry of Power led Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has organized Electric Vehicle Exhibition of EV two wheelers, Three wheelers, Four wheelers today at Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada followed by Road Show.
On this occasion, the Secretary Energy, B Sreedhar in his message said “State government was taking productive measures to promote electric vehicles and establish charging infrastructure which would help the State to take lead in the emerging electric vehicles industry, increase energy security in the State, control pollution and improve air quality. The electric mobility can boost to the economic and industrial competitiveness creating congenial atmosphere for attracting investments”.
“We are witnessing high dependence on crude oil imports and on the other hand, we are combating air pollution for cleaner and greener future. This “Go electric” campaign will address these two challenges by creating awareness among general public regarding adoption of electric mobility and sustainable transportation ecosystem. The Go Electric campaign would help to remove barriers faced by stakeholders in adopting electric mobility and finding solutions for expeditious resolution to enable its faster adoption. ”Enhanced consumers awareness on benefits of adopting EVs will take forward the movement in the State,” Secretary said.
Electric mobility is a major alternative for IC(Internal Combustion) engines and has lower operational cost compared to IC engines. The E-mobility helps to reduce emissions and reduces import dependency of fossil fuels from other countries which help our economy as well.
Speaking on this occasion, the APTRANSCO Joint Managing Director, Vigilance, B Malla Reddy said fossil fuels like coal, petroleum natural gas which are being used in our daily lives are going to get exhausted in near future. Also, the vehicles that use fossil fuels produce lot of pollution which is hazardous. An alternative solution is use of electric vehicles that will protect environment, create ecological balance and reduce pollution and provide a better environment for a healthy well being of the people., JMD/Vigilance said.
All the employees will be involved in this campaign and promote e-mobility in a big way and make the consumers aware of the benefits of e-vehicles., he said.
NREDCAP has identified 4000 locations for setting up charging stations in Andhra Pradesh and 10 developers have been registered for their establishment.NREDCAP has also formulated a scheme to provide electric bikes to government employees on installment basis as per government directives. It has entered into an agreement with Dhanalxmi Bank and Bank of Baroda to provide loans to government employees under this scheme. Interested employees can register their desired electric vehicle on the EVNREDCAP Mobile App/portal.
The brief of the scheme are as follows.
✔ The interest rate is only 9 percent
✔ The first installment will be considered as an upfront payment
✔ Electric 2-wheelers(with AMC/without AMC) can be registered and obtained on the portal
✔ Initially the scheme was launched in Krishna, NTR, Eluru, Bhimavaram and Rajahmundry districts
Officials informed that the State level ‘Go Electric’ campaign was launched on 10th June-2021. As part of the initiative, BEE, GoI has given consent for electrification of 3-wheeler passenger autos (retrofitting of existing IC Engine autos with electric retrofit kits & swappable batteries) 200 nos in Tirupati city & 100 nos in Visakhapatnam city which will reduce the pollution and help to increase the income of auto drivers on account of low running & maintenance costs.
As a pilot project, 3 ICE (Internal Combustion Engines) autos were converted to electric autos in Tirupati city and were given to local auto drivers for testing the performance. In view of various advantages, the auto drivers have expressed their happiness in driving Electric Autos. The Auto drivers could save Rs. 5000 per month when compared with Diesel & Petrol autos. There is no pollution, vibration and low maintenance
JMD/Vigilance, APTRANSCO, B Malla Reddy, Director Finance, K Muthupandian, Director Thermal/APGENCO, G ChandraSekhara Raju and senior officials of power utilities have participated in the exhibition.
